SFC reappoints Alexa Lam as deputy CEO

27 Jun 11

The Hong Kong government has reappointed Alexa Lam as deputy chief executive officer of the SFC.

The Hong Kong government has reappointed Alexa Lam as deputy chief executive officer of the SFC.

Lam was originally appointed to the position in December 2001, prior to which she worked for various legal practices in New York and Hong.

During her tenure, which was due to expire at the end of February, Lam led a number of major initiatives, including the enactment of the Securities and Futures Ordinance, reforming the margin financing rules and industry practice and promoting Hong Kong as an international asset management centre.
In addition to the appointment of Lam, the SFC has also appointed Carlson Tong as a non-executive director.

The news follows an announcement at the end of last year that the current SFC CEO, Martin Wheatley, is due to step-down at this summer. He is due to take up a senior position at UK regulator the FSA.

Wheatley said: “I am pleased with the Financial Secretary’s decision to re-appoint Mrs Lam. I am certain that the SFC will continue to benefit from her dedication, wealth of experience, as well as professional knowledge.”
