New data from Financial Express Analytics reveals a stunning year for miners and oil companies and persistent trouble for telecoms and retailers.
Food producers, general retailers and real estate investment services were among the worst performing FTSE sectors, a fact which should not come as a huge surprise to many, given the year-long trials and tribulations of retailers like M&S, and string of frozen open-ended property funds in the immediate aftermath of the referendum.
Returns from FTSE food producers stood at -7.45%, while the yield from the general retailers worked out to -11.17%. Investors in real estate investment were particularly badly hit by negative returns of -16/9%.
